Oh noes! If you are reading this section then something must have gone wrong in installing or using Skyscraper. Please note that if an error is not covered in this page please search through the Support and Bug Reports boards on the forum. In this section, I'll cover the most common errors.
Scenario One: Program will not start.
You extracted everything properly (you hope), yet you get an error like this one: “The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. “
If a window like this one pops up on your screen, copy and paste the entire report into a new topic on the forum and someone will help you.Note: It is important to copy everything there (press CTRL + A to select everything, then CTRL + C to copy it, then, in a new topic, press CTRL + V to paste it). There is critical data above the “Platform: Win32” line that helps us diagnose the problem. The simulator can crash and show that report for any number of reasons. Common reasons include not having enough RAM, missing files, incorrect Skyscraper version, or out-of-date graphics card drivers.
Scenario Three: “Error Loading Building” error.
This error sometimes appears for no reason.
SOLUTION: Restart Skyscraper. If that does not work, redownload the building file. You can also try restarting your computer.
Scenario Four: Missing Data/Sounds/Textures.
This is the most common error. This error is always caused by missing data. Pay close attention to the missing files (they will be displayed after the building loads). Copy them down, and then check to make sure you have those files.
SOLUTIONS: You may have accidentally placed the required sounds/textures in the wrong folder. Simply move them to where they should go. If you cannot find them at all, redownload the files and place/extract them to their proper location. If the needed files were not available for download, search the forum for them. This is a very common problem, and a solution for your problem may have already been posted. If you have the files and they are in the right location (and you know it for certain), then there is a problem with the Simulator itself. If you are ABSOLUTELY sure that the files are in the right place but they still are not loading, make a post about it in the Bug Reports board.
If you encounter a problem unlike the ones above, post the error in the Support section. Be prepared to provide some system specifications, like how much RAM you have, your operating system, and the type of graphics card you have. It's also important to tell us which build of Skyscraper you are using and what you were trying to do at the time.
